Dr John Rowen, Botox and sclerotherapy at Montreal

Clinic esthetic XOMED esthtix

Sclerotherapy

Originally from Europe, this treatment has been available for a long time. The role of the veins, is to redirect blood to the heart. The blood flow is provided largely by strong and deep veins and help from muscles around them. The superficial veins are visible through the skin, they are more fragile and poorly supported. When they expand, they lose their usefulness and form what are called varicose veins. These are the veins that are targeted by sclerotherapy.

The goal of the treatment is to stimulate the natural mechanism of inflammation to force the healing of the vein from the inside. The method involves injecting a solution (usually saline) into the vein to have it heal like any cut on the skin surface. Adverse reactions are rare and the positive effect is visible after a few weeks. The number of treatments needed can range from two to ten, as appropriate. Even if the treatment involves inserting a needle, most people consider it quite tolerable. We take all possible measures to reduce discomfort.

A session lasts an average of 20 to 30 minutes, and we chose several injection points (10 to 30). Each point is covered with cotton that you must keep up to an hour or two after treatment. We also encourages the wearing of stockings for best results. This treatment has very few side effects, apart from possible bruising which will disappear after about two weeks. The beneficial effects appear quickly, but can take several weeks to settle completely.
